- Interview conducted by Lewis Steiger with P.T. Reilly, Sun City, Arizona. P.T. was number 109 in 1949 on Dock Marston's list of the second 100 river runners through the Grand Canyon; his wife Susie was number 126 in 1951.
- Biography/History
- Grand Canyon River Guides, founded in 1988, unofficially began their oral history project in November 1990 at Georgie White Clark's 80th birthday party, Hatch River Expeditions warehouse, Marble Canyon, Arizona. The official start was with a grant from the Southwestern Foundation for Education and Historical Preservation. The project is ongoing. P.T. Reilly and his wife Susie [Mary Elizabeth MacClean] were passengers on the San Juan River with Nevills Expedition in 1947; Reilly was a boatman for Nevills in 1948 on the San Juan and Green River, through Grand Canyon in 1949, boatman for the successor Mexican Hat Expeditions, 1950-1952, and began building boats and running his own private river trips in 1953, ran trips through the 1950s, early 1960s, and as a historian in the early 1980s. The interview appeared in The Boatman's Quarterly Review, Volume 15 Number 4, Winter 2002-2003. P.T. died October 24, 1996; Susie April 19, 2001.
